There’s something special about Marston Green. Maybe it’s the way everyone says hello on the High Street, or how the park fills up the moment the sun peeks out. For a place so close to the hustle and bustle of Solihull and Birmingham, The NEC and Birmingham Airport, Marston Green has always managed to hold onto that small-village soul.
It’s a place that remembers its past, and that’s what makes it so loved today.
From Farmland to Family Homes
Marston Green began life as a rural hamlet surrounded by farmland and quiet countryside. The “Marston” in its name comes from mǣre tūn, meaning farm by the boundary , a fitting nod to its early life on the edge of what’s now Solihull.
Things really began to change in the late 19th century when the railway arrived. The new Marston Green Station connected the village to Birmingham and beyond, and with it came growth. Houses were built for commuters and local workers, and a once-sleepy farming spot became a thriving residential community.
Even now, if you wander near the station or through the older parts of the village, you can still see hints of that early charm, the cottages, the green, the sense that time moves just a little slower here.

Through the decades, Marston Green has always been about its people. Families who’ve lived here for generations, local businesses that know you by name, and the community groups who pull together whenever there’s a cause worth supporting.

A New Chapter: Franklin & Hawkins in Marston Green
Franklin & Hawkins opened our Marston Green funeral home in 2009, bringing our experience, care, and family values to the heart of the village.
For us, choosing Marston Green wasn’t just about a convenient location. It was about community as both the Franklin and Hawkins families lived close by in Castle Bromwich and Sheldon. We’d long admired and personally understood the warmth of this place and the way people look out for each other. Being here means we can support local families in a setting that feels calm, familiar, and connected to home with some of our family members still living in the village to this day.
Since opening our doors, we’ve been honoured to help families from across Marston Green and Solihull celebrate the lives of their loved ones, always with respect, compassion, and that personal touch that truly matters.
Then and Now
Today, Marston Green continues to evolve. New homes have appeared, the park’s busier than ever, and the train station still hums with daily life. Yet underneath it all, that original village heart beats strong.
It’s the reason so many people never really leave, and why those who move away always find themselves coming back to visit.
