When a death occurs at home and end of life has been confirmed by the deceased own GP, Doctor, District Nurse or on call Emergency Services, contact us on one of our numbers above. If death occurs in a nursing home the staff will call us on your behalf.

Your loved one will then be brought into our care. A courtesy call will be made by one of our team who will then guide you through this difficult time.

When a death occurs in hospital, bereavement services will need to be informed that Franklin & Hawkins are going to be handling the funeral arrangements – they will need to know if it is to be a cremation or burial to arrange the relevant paperwork.

The doctor who most recently treated the deceased will issue a cause of death certificate which is reviewed by a medical examiner who will then call the next of kin to discuss. This is now sent direct to the registrars along with the next of kin details. The registrar will then be in touch to arrange an appointment to complete the registration of death and send the relevant paperwork to ourselves.

The death must be registered in the district of where the death occurred.  This is required to take place within 5 days from the date of death.

A death is reported to the Coroner where the doctor cannot issue the cause of death due to the death being suspicious, unexpected or where the deceased hasn’t seen their doctors in the last 14 days. The Coroner will advise the family if further investigation is required or if the registration can go ahead with paperwork completed by doctors.
