Canley Crematorium – Coventry

Canley Crematorium is the main crematorium serving Coventry and has been part of the community since 1943. It was originally designed in the 1930s but delayed due to the war. It has two chapels: the Charter Chapel, and the slightly newer Cannon Hill Chapel, which was added in 1993. Both chapels offer a calm, respectful environment and are tucked away from the road with private drives, allowing families some peace and quiet before and after the service. Services commence every 45 minutes, allowing time to say goodbye without feeling rushed. We always appreciate the gardens of remembrance which are beautifully maintained and include a woodland section, rose gardens and seasonal planting, giving families plenty of options for ashes to be scattered in a meaningful way. We also feel the lily pond is a beautiful centre piece where the benches surrounding allow families to sit and rest, whether after their service or on a return visit.

Oakley Wood Crematorium – Warwick District

Twenty one acres of ancient woodland lay just outside Leamington Spa, where Oakley Wood Crematorium offers a very natural and peaceful feel, perfect for families wanting a little more rural and serene atmosphere. It opened in the early 1970s and has two chapels: the North Chapel, which seats around 160, and the South Chapel, which is slightly smaller but still holds around 85 seated with room for more standing. What we feel makes Oakley Wood extra special is the surrounding woodland – you’ll often spot deer and wildlife wandering through, and the crematorium takes great care to preserve the natural feel of the space. There are no headstones or grave markers in the burial or scattering areas, keeping the woodland as untouched as possible.

Rainsbrook Crematorium – Rugby

Rainsbrook Crematorium is a relatively new and modern facility, having opened in 2014 to serve Rugby and the surrounding areas. It has two chapels, the Avon and the Ashlawn, offering flexible options for services of different sizes and styles. The Avon Chapel is the larger of the two, with seating for around 138 guests, while the Ashlawn Chapel is smaller and more intimate, perfect for quieter gatherings. Both chapels are light and modern, and we particularly favour the beautiful views over the countryside. The crematorium is set within landscaped grounds that include wildflower planting and quiet reflection spaces, giving it a natural and peaceful feel.

Solihull & Birmingham

Robin Hood Crematorium – Solihull

Robin Hood Crematorium is set within the grounds of Robin Hood Cemetery, which has been part of Solihull since 1917. The crematorium itself opened in 1958 and still has that traditional charm, with the benefit of modern updates. The chapel is simple and elegant, seating around 70 with room for up to 120 standing. The grounds themselves are quite expansive, covering 45 acres and including some lovely old trees and planting, which we feels gives the space a feeling of maturity and calm.

Yardley Crematorium – Birmingham East

Yardley Crematorium has a long history, originally built as a chapel in the 1930s and converted into a crematorium in the early 1950s. There is seating around 166 mourners, including an upstairs area. The chapel is traditional but equipped with modern facilities including hearing loops and options for recorded tributes. The grounds include gardens of remembrance and spaces for memorial plaques, books of remembrance, and more personalised memorials. We like this crematorium for its traditional feel, the high ceilings and raised platform catafalque area are lovely additions.

Sutton Coldfield Crematorium – Birmingham

Although a little further north, Sutton Coldfield Crematorium is another crematorium we sometimes visit with our families. Set within a mature cemetery, it offers a quiet, respectful setting with all the facilities you’d expect. We always appreciate the long driveway which takes you away from the bustle of the main roads that make it very accessible for Sutton, Birmingham and Lichfield. The chapel exits towards a lovely flower garden where families can spend time looking over the floral tributes, or just taking in the landscape.

Woodlands Crematorium – Solihull

Opened in 1984 the cemetery has an extensive woodland area containing an ancient decoy pool. In 2000 the existing cemetery chapel was modified and extended for the Crematorium which can accommodate up to 60 people seated and 60 people standing. Although sharing a driveway, the crematorium is separate to the cemetery with its own car park allowing families to feel privacy before and after their service. We feel the bluebell woodland area is a perfect place for gathering your thoughts and breathing in nature before heading back into the busy world.

Final Thoughts

Choosing the right crematorium often comes down to little details, from how many people it can seat, to whether you’d like a woodland walk afterwards, or simply somewhere that feels “right.”

Many families also prefer to visit the same crematorium through their generations, feeling a connection to the building and it’s surroundings.
